Dear Classmates,

I hope you’re well and happy and have come to appreciate, over the past year, how much our families and friends mean to us. In our “golden age,” we draw strength from these constants in our lives. You may have lost track of your Duke “family” of classmates, but this is the time to re-connect with those early friends and fond memories of our undergraduate days in Durham. Then, it seems, our only worries were passing exams and having a date for a weekend dance or party.

Duke has changed since then, but it remains the same: a place for academic and athletic excellence, the proving ground for future leaders, and the launching pad for success and personal achievement. No one should be surprised that our university remains as exceptional as it was when we enjoyed its education and recreation more than fifty years ago.

This September 25-27, recapture the fun and fellowship when we celebrate Half Century Club Weekend during Homecoming. I particularly want to welcome the Class of 1959, who will be officially inducted into the Half Century Club. Besides programs just for us, we can take part in any Homecoming festivities on campus. Educational sessions include panel discussions by renowned professors and university administrators, plus tours of our changing campus. It wouldn’t be fall without football in Wallace Wade Stadium. This year the exciting and greatly improved Blue Devils will be playing the Eagles of North Carolina Central University.

Half Century Club Weekend activities and details of all events will be posted on this website, where you will be able to register online from the comfort of your home.

I’ve enjoyed serving as your HCC president for several years now, but it’s time for a change. I will continue to be active in the club and, of course, to take part in our annual weekends on campus. I hope you will be, too! Besides renewing old friendships at our Half Century Club Weekend and reminiscing about the good times of Duke past, you’ll have lots of chances to learn about Duke today. Please “come home” in September and join us at the university we all love so dearly.

Sincerely,

William A. Teasley ’56

President, Half Century Club
