Membership

1. How much does it cost to join?
The DCW membership fee is $25 for individuals, Duke couples, and parents. Free for 2008, 2009, and pre-'53; $20 for 2005-2007; $25 all other classes, Duke couples and parents.; however, you must mail in a form or register online. The cost of membership is often recouped by attending just one event.

2. How do I join?
You may join DCW online or by printing the membership form and mailing it along with a check, payable to DCW, to DCW, P.O. Box 8091, McLean, VA 22106.

3. How long is the membership period?

DCW membership is on a calendar year - January to December.

4. If I join late in the year is the fee prorated?
Membership fees do not change throughout the year. The cost is very reasonable and can generally be recouped by attending just one DCW event. Membership dues are a significant source of revenue for the local Club and vital to the quality and quantity of activities and events.

5. If my spouse and I are both Duke graduates, how much do we pay for membership?
DCW allows Duke Couples (both husband and wife are Duke graduates) to join as one membership - $25. As a Duke Couple, you will receive only one mailing and/or email per household (i.e., you can't list two email addresses).

6. Do I use my undergraduate or Graduate class year for membership dues?
Membership dues are set by undergraduate year. If you only attended Graduate School at Duke, then use that graduation year. But if you do have both, you pay based on your undergraduate year.

7. How do I know if I'm already a member?
Contact Elizabeth Jackson at info@dcw.org or 703-556-0149.

8. I paid my National Alumni Association dues. Does that mean I am also a DCW member?
No. DCW membership is separate from National Alumni Association dues. DCW dues are solicited in January for a calendar year, while NAA dues are solicited in July for a fiscal year.

Events

1. How do I register for an event?
You may register online or mail a check, payable to DCW, to DCW, P.O. Box 8091, McLean, VA 22106.

2. How do I find out about upcoming events?
You can check the online Calendar, and you may join the Club to receive the DCW Update newsletter and all other Club communications.

3. Do I have to be a member to register for an event?
DCW members receive registration priority for all events and substantial discounts are offered for members. Non-members can register for events at the non-member rate. However, if the event sells out you could be bumped by a member.

4. What does "max of #" mean on the registration form?
Most events will list a maximum number of tickets that can be purchased at the different levels. This means a member can purchase up to the maximum allowed, and then must pay the non-member rate for tickets beyond the maximum. All persons in the member's party do not have to be members.

5. Will my tickets be mailed to me?
DCW does not mail tickets. If actual tickets are required for an event, you will pick them up at the door.

6. Can I reserve/hold tickets without paying?
No. Reservations are only secured once payment is received, either online or in the mail. Telephone and email requests to hold tickets are not accepted.

7. Can I get a refund if I don't attend an event?
No. Unless DCW cancels an event, event registrations are non-refundable.

8. Can I pay for an event at the door?
No. Preregistration is required unless otherwise noted. Generally, payment is not accepted at the door.

9. If I have a great event idea, how do I get it added to the calendar?
You can suggest an event idea online by going to Calendar and choosing Event Ideas. The Club leadership will receive your suggestion and do their best to make it happen.
